Harry potter is NOT good for Christians because it’s essentially a way into the cult itself.
It fills your head and spiritual need with witchcraft instead of God’s word. That’s not good. It also turns into a temptation. The shift began in the late 1980s from the negative association to positive association for witchcraft. It’s anti-Christian and they are targeting children using books like Harry Potter.
JK Rowling has said that kids often role-play and copy Harry Potter. It’s evident in School boarding applications and people buying white owls. It’s important to remember that kids can and will copy things they see and hear. (Refer to into the woods, they will listen) The series (Harry Potter) taught sinful practices such as lying(Proverbs 6:16-17), cheating(Genesis 20:9), killing(Exodus 20:13), revenge(Romans 12:19), hypocrisy(1 John 4:20) and manipulation(Ephesians 4:14).
The series also supports an individual to decide what’s good and evil instead of going to the Bible. There is no mention of God anywhere in the series. That allows Harry and his friends to do anything they desire without consequences. The presence of ghosts suggests an afterlife without hell or heaven. Harry Potter is about the struggle for power. The series are about an evil wizard Voldemort fighting Harry, another “evil” wizard.
The Bible says witchcraft is evil which makes ALL wizards evil. (Leviticus 19:26, Exodus 22:17-18, Deuternomy 18:11-12, Revelation 21:7-8) This blend of imagery desensitizes the evilness of witchcraft. Children may come away with the idea that the occult is fun and is fine to do instead of turning to God’s holiness. The real world and spiritual world are interconnected. Sin can still be promoted by entertainment.
Harry Potter is NOT suitable for young, immature Christians or for young children and young teens. They will struggle to see what’s true or false. The series may also lead to confusion about God’s view on the occult. Christians should also avoid being tied with evil but should focus on their relationship with God. Christian parents need to teach their kids about God’s righteousness.
Instead of exposing them to evil, teach them to avoid it. When they have a strong relationship with God/ Jesus, Harry Potter can be used as a tool in teaching them on what to look for to avoid. It can also be used to teach them discernment and biblical knowledge. Biblically there’s no defense to give another believer permission to get involved with the occult practices. The bible condemns these demonic activities(1 Chronicles 10:13, 2 Chronicles 33:6, Leviticus 19:31) and children need to be shielded from them.
Christian parents have a duty to keep their kids protected physically and spiritually. This includes the recent Disney movies NOT just Harry Potter. Be discerning with children’s entertainment. Harry Potter is NOT a movie series that Christians can use for entertainment safely without running risk spiritually. Weak minded and undiscerning Christians need to stay FAR away of this type of film.
The series moral code is scattered and not necessary for teaching right from wrong. Satan has profited from a poor woman who wrote a degraded story. She now has to wrestle with the consequences of forfeiting her soul (Mark 8:34-38). There are better practical movie series such as Superbook, Veggie Tales, and Grim Fairytales. These type of stories teach right from wrong. Fathers, as the head of the home, need to teach their children the Bible and biblical principals. Father figures need to do this for the fatherless as well. This should reduce the need to go to movie houses and video stores for Christian adults.
In conclusion, Harry Potter is not good for Christians because it’s against biblical standards on evilness. It has faced worldwide condemnation from the church. It’s also very important to avoid such evil and instead to focus on God’s word. Shunning this type of evilness will help diligence in the church.
AVOID HARRY POTTER!
