Opening Prayer
Lord, thank you for this time you’ve given us to open your Word and discover who you are. Thank you that you don’t leave us in the dark about who you are and what you are doing in the world, but that you have revealed yourself and your will through the Bible, your sacred words to us. Lord, we need wisdom as we read your Word. You promise us in James 1:5 that we only have to ask for wisdom to receive it. Lord, please give us your wisdom now as we approach your Word. Help us discern the truth of this text. Help us not rely on our own understanding. Thank you God for the clarity, encouragement and hope your Word brings. In Jesus’ Name we pray, Amen.[1]
Previous Highlights
- Last week, we looked at what human wisdom is: earthly, natural, and even demonic. In contrast, we will be looking at examples of heavenly wisdom tonight.
Application
Read James 3:16-18 and answer questions 4 and 5 on page 9 of the workbook.
Closing Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank you for your Word and thank you for the wisdom and grace you give us to understand and live it out. Today we want to ask you for wisdom. Wisdom in understanding your Word clearly, wisdom in each and every one of our trials, wisdom in our work, wisdom in raising our children, and in our relationships, and wisdom in every other area of our lives. We know that you give wisdom to those who ask and believe, and we do believe you will answer our prayer. We want to grow Lord, we want to glorify you in all we say and do. We don’t want to sit back and watch the world move around us. Open our eyes to your will for us, and give us the wisdom to see the opportunities you’ve placed before us. We trust you with our lives, and release them to you. In Jesus’ Name we pray, Amen.[2]
Next Week
